New York: hometown, site of our headquarters, and of our biggest office by headcount.

From very humble beginnings on N 6th Street in Williamsburg (founder Oliver Hicks’s apartment at the time), in an age where Williamsburg was viewed as a very odd address for a production company, North Six has grown up a lot, and into our current Greenwich Village office and well as seven others in cities that span the globe.

Our Bleecker St HQ has a storied history, serving as a cinema, a theater, and as a site for several underground parties. As one can discover in the essay we’ve commission from writer Andrew Bevan, who has spent the same 20+ years in the city, the fuel of this city is change. And, much indeed has changed and is still changing: in the city, in our trade, and in fashion industry. The outcome is a keen eye for the new, and an appetite for the creative energy that is needed to interpret it.

Not unlike New York, our Los Angeles office has seen some big changes since first landing in the city in 2004.

And, not unlike New York, our current office was also a former cinema – but uniquely, the Los Angeles office has a public face: the ground floor plays home to SIZED, a design-led gallery space that is a sign of things to come.

Our office can be found on Western Avenue, in East Hollywood, on a block in the midst of immense change, transforming into a cultural hub with new neighbors such as David Zwirner gallery.

The landscape of the city is changing, finding a new confidence with an influx of new talent, and a galvanizing cultural sector. Yet its appeal remains untouched – something we asked SIZED gallerist, Alexander May, and chef, stylist, and entrepreneur Gina Correll Aglietti to discuss.

Tucked away in one of the quieter corners of Shoreditch, in East London, North Six is found at the Rochelle School.

A converted Victorian school now, the Rochelle School is an oasis of creative businesses – home to architects, creative studios, talent management, jewelers, and independent magazines – and to incredible food.

Through a somewhat nondescript doorway, you enter a walled garden that not only serves as a central courtyard for Rochelle’s studios, but as a meeting place for London’s creative community. This is in no small part thanks to Rochelle Canteen (perhaps the only tenant that is utterly irreplaceable), who’s chef, Margot Henderson, is a frequent collaborator of North Six.

We asked Margot, and a fellow chef and N6 collaborator across the English Channel in Paris, Rose Chalalai Singh, to come together – as they often do – to speak about the essence of good hosting.

Home, still, to some of the largest and most influential fashion conglomerates, some of the industry’s newest and most exciting young designers, and some of its most compelling talent and influencers, Paris and Fashion are – in the public imagination, and in many real ways – inextricable.

And North Six, in an office near the Canal St Martin, is in its bustling heart – as if that is possible to escape here – ever since first touching down in Paris during our 10th anniversary year in 2011.

In Milan, the North Six office is truly and literally at home, occupying a former country house owned by famous stocking manufacturers.

Once a small village, the quiet residential neighborhood in which we find ourselves has since been woven up into the fabric of Milan. And, we are lucky to sit between the vast green space that is the Parco Nord Milano (nearly 1600 acres), and cultural destinations such as the Pirelli HangarBicocca gallery (housed in a former locomotive factory).

The North Six office in Madrid is found in a typical corrala, an architectural style that wraps a building of many units around a central courtyard.

They are often places for discovery, the context for many of the city’s hidden gems, from decades-old artisan’s shops, to modern day concept stores.

Our own office is a converted industrial storage space, but today we share this corrala with an artist, flower designers, and a motorcycle mechanic. Tucked away in the Chamberí district, we find ourselves in a neighborhood that is both trendy and authentic, where one can feel the true essence of the city.

The Dutch capital is pretty new for North Six – our second youngest office, with the addition of Sydney, and also our northernmost outpost.

A compact city where creative talent punches far above its weight, including a strong publishing scene, it was a natural place to grow into as we continue to build our European network.

Amsterdam is also home to the internationally renowned Foam museum of photography, whose former Artistic Director, Jane’a Johnson, offered us her perspective on the responsibilities of today’s image-makers.

North Six opened an office in Sydney during the COVID pandemic, both for very practical reasons and also by some degree of luck.

It was, for some time, an easier place from which to produce – as rolling lockdowns and strict protocols stopped a lot of work in its tracks in Europe and the United States. What made it possible for us, however, was an Australian North Six producer who had decided to return home and gave a very good excuse for the company to extend its reach

A lot closer to Asia than any other North Six office, it’s also a step towards that region, an incredibly important market for luxury fashion brands.
